| On the banks of the Dordogne, facing the island of Calypso which so enchanted Fénelon, Carennac has remained a very homogeneous village rich in its 15 th and 16 th c. architecture, and particularly envied for its Romanesque Priory and its 15 th c. The church Portal is remarkable example of the Moissac school of Romanesque sculpture: at the tympanum's centre, Christ the King sitting in benediction, flanked by the symbols of the four Evangelists, and by the Apostles.The Cloisters still have one Romanesque gallery, the others being late 15 th c. The Chapterhouse is home to a superb 15 th c. Entombment.
